Hi folks...

Started tiling my aunties friends house yesterday. 3.5sqm floor in the bathroom and a 7sqm hall floor using pretty large ceramic tiles.

1st things first - My back and my knees are killing me lol

I managed to finish the bathroom floor in the first day (not grouted yet as doing all grouting at same time) and I got half the hall floor done today. I thought I would have been able to do it 2 days, grout and all. Is this really slow or were you guys as slow when you started out?

Had a few cutting problems in the hall. I found it hard to get the cuts right around the doorway where the skirtings are. I had to cut, like, 2 L shapes in 2 tiles and found this pretty hard to do. whats the easiest way to do this? I went through about 4 tiles trying :mad2:

Also my nose and my lips were nipping when I finished today and yesterday. Is this caused by the adhesive?

Thanks

Welcome to the world of tiling Falcone! Yes it is slow to start, and you will definately make mistakes with cuts etc. but don't get disheartened it gets better. The nip on you lips and nose will be cement from the addy, use a mask when you mix it.

Cut the L shapes on your wet saw, at least one of the cuts anyway.

As for the back and knees, think yoga!

Thanks folks. Yeah I was gettin a bit disheartened coz the customer had actually foned my auntie on the 1st day to ask if I was maybe strugglin coz I was taking a while putting the tiles down but I was actually setting out and doing cuts etc so now I'm thinkin "does she think i don't know what I'm doin" lol...

I did hear her husband say to her today that he was liking the look of the tiles though so that kinda made me feel better.

some of my cuts around the door skirtings arent the best but I'll do my best to cover these with Silicon.

will post pics as soon as I'm done

Hey Falcone, stick in there, I still sometimes have problems going round door frames  , that's why we always stick on atleast 10% extra tiles

I would say everyone is slow to start with, but the most important bit when you are only just starting is to take plenty of time, and you'll be able to stand back and admire your work afterwards.

Are you actually using knee pads ?, ifnot get some, as for your back... a good massage palour will sort that out

Im laying a polished black porcelain floor for a friend at the moment, 25 sqm, and I must have spent over 2 hours setting out , lol

know the feeling m8, you think at the end of the day, goodness sake what have i actually done!! but if jobs a good un then customer happy it thumbsup. Cuts etc take time and if its a hard tile they take longer, reckon you have to get a system going, stick to it, and try and get quicker. Keep up the good work....Rik
