As above Hagar. But you need to sort out any defection first. Then as Bri says, glue and screw hardiebacker over the top.

I need to SLC the chipboard then GLUE and screw the hardie down?

I guess that means I will have to SLC twice... once on the chip board and once on the hardie.

You don't need to SLC the chipboard, just make sure there is no deflection before you glue (with tile adhesive) and screw the HB.

The crux is that I have a bowl thing going on with the chipboard. The middle of the floor is 1 cm lower than the edges of the room.
To remove deflection I would have to spread the adhesive on quite thick.
 
Edit: just realised single part flex can be applied at 12mm in localised areas..
