hi all,

i have a big job in the pipeline 200m floor tiles in restraunt, the tiles are ceramic 300x300

not sure yet what condition floor is in but was wondering what would be a good

competative price for this (not including materials) and what would be a realistic time to

complete.
£30 per m labour, materials extra, that is assuming there is no levelling to be done....if its clear area should manage 20/25m per day...reckon you could use a labourer there Weeman.Probably 10/11 days preparing, cutting in,grouting and cleaning up.

That's more than a lot of people I know are charging for doing a complicated small room in ceramic tiles. If I was doing a job that size the square metre would come down to reflect the fact that you have got a much smaller percentage of cutting to do.

Why is there a smaller percentage of cutting,I would expect loads at 200m ? all perimeters and lots of doorways IMO

Taking a room of say 2mx2m with that size tile you will use 36 full tiles and 28 cut tiles. That equates to about 44% of tiles being cut. With a room of 14mx14m (196 square metres) you will use something like 2116 full tiles and 184 tiles around the perimeter, that equates to 8%.

I appreciate the room may not be square but just using that to illustrate a point.

£30 per meter!!!!! surely thats too high isnt it..at 25 meters per day thats £750-00p per day....i dont care how good you are if you came to my place and charged me that id be waiting for jeremy beadle to jump out..

i would go in at 15 per meter, its ceramic 300x 300, quite straight forward and at 25 meters per day, thats a wage of 375 per day for 10 days work!!! thats a brilliant day rate. ok if the floor is dodgy then that has to be sorted but thats a seperate issue/price.
surely theres loads of good tilers who wouldnt balk at 375 a day, i know i wouldnt. thats £99,000-00p per year based on a five day week,,,,

seriously, i think some of the crafty old boys on here are setting high prices and when us newbies go out we are surprised that we are not getting the work (cant blame them tho) theyve got to protect their income, business is business hey..

oh and at 15 pound per meter , then that makes you competative and you'll get more consistant work which leads to more days at 375 which is nearly a 100k a year, if being too cheap at 15 per meter gets me 100k per year i'll be glad to be called too cheap, in fact the cheaper the better...

good luck on getting your 200m every 10 days or your 25m per day.
go in too cheap and you'll will have trouble putting up your prices in the future, you'll be known as being cheap...ie, same person comes and asks you to do 10m at £15...take the taxmans share, fuel, a couple of ££s aside for tool/vehicle maintenance, vehicle tax etc..may as well stay in bed

hi mark

the point is, if you get a large amount of meters, then their should be some realistic review of this. its business law mark. buy in bulk , get more discount, thats not my rule, thats the law of economics. you cant be that tunnel visioned in business. i think if theres only 10 meters and you wont work for less than 200 a day, then thats fair enough. i am not talking about being cheap, its about the price reflecting the job. ie i think 20 per meter is fair upto 10 meters, then 15 onwards it should be 15..see, now you still getting over 200 a day....if you wont work or get out of bed for 150 then fine, there'll be days when you wount work and others will........the building game is one area of life that you dont always get what you pay for...some of the biggest cowboys i have seen came to our showroom to tile our floor in new vans, with new tools, t shirts and website wanting 30 per meter and we found out that theyd not long set up from being on a week course. they had all the talk but none of the walk...any then this old guy came in with his son, charged 18 per meter and did an amazing job, so cheap isnt always bad when it comes to builders.

i would say be flexible, if your not working, then its better to get some money that none and 375 a day for 10 days at 15 per meter is alot of money...

you wont stay in business long if you refuse to be flexable. even bmw and porsche are giving discounts now..lots of great british companies have fell by the wayside for overcharging and refusing to adapt to the current market...

hi weman the time it would take to do would depend on the shape of the room or rooms ts all about the cuts i would be looking at 20m to 30m a day tiled not grouted on big floors like this i would paice it up at your norm rate then take 15% / 10% off as it is a lot of work from one place if you have not done big floors befor they go down a lot faster then you think they will. hope it goes well
