Hi,

20 mm trowel sounds like about 3/4" trowel for us (the largest one I own), and we use them for really large tile and stone, or for smaller stuff that is irregular or rough on the back....even if going over a mud bed or SLC.

I agree with you...I prefer to get the substrate looking good first, then not to have to fight with it as much when setting the tile. :thumbsup:

As long as the tiles are flat and level on top!
