20mm thick limestone

Picked up this job last night, starting tueday. I've done limestone before, but not this thick.

In a kitchen on the floor. Floor boards that I'm over laying with 15mm ply screwed etc.

I'm going to use a 12mm trowel, but would it be an idea to back-butter the limestone as well? Ta

Fred - Do you know what type/colour Limestone it is?
If it's white take care of the surface - even greasy fingers mark.
I always seal white Limestone as it comes out the crate.
15mm WBP plywood overboarding is British Standard.
Tape and screed the joints.
Flexible fast set adhesive - will take up the weight of the Limestone quicker and stop it sinking (lippage).
Check the calibration for thickness and always solid bed fix - definitely flat back the tiles.

20mm.....must be something like a moleanous..Applestone is usually 12mm to 15mm depending upon size format....moleanous tends to be thicker from 18mm to 20mm..and bastilles even thicker.

Either way the fixing is just the same...full contact of adhesive and work clean...and as TJ say's be careful when working with whites..

if you are lucky enough to find the limestone is dry out of the crates have very seldom found it to be you can seal them first but use a rapid setting grout or the water will seap into the sides of the stone which can then only dry out thought the joints which can take a awful long time ete

Their 400 x 400 and are white...........:incazzato:Client got them off some web site for pennies, has got granfix flexible white rapid and LTP sealer.

Granfix white is not white like benfer of mapei is, its more like light brown so be weary of using it, would test a tile to see if it bleeds through.

So here goes what happened when I turned up today! The client removed the old tiles yesterday for me. I had seen this site last week and knew that there was 6mm ply, old plasterboard laid! , and other thicknesses of ply, so I knew it was tight getting the limestone to sit flush with his new bamboo floor in the ajoining open planned room.

Streight away I could see the room slopped and that is why when he had removed the tiles we could see this. Now the funny bit. I explained that the tiles were not going to sit flush with the bamboo flooring, oh he says, then don't use the 12mm ply, just lay it on the floorboards! I tried with all my might to explain thats a big no no, but he just shouted to me to get on with it!

I then said even if |I could do that, what about the slope, over 4 inches out, and he wanted the tiles to be level with the hallway bamboo over the other end of the room! Just put down some 6mm, then 9mm then 12mm ply as you go accross the floor and dot and dab the tile to the level he suggests..............thats when I walked out.

Was I right to walk?
