I left my office based computer job when I was 41 and retrained as a tiler. Best move of my career!

Downside:
Knackered every night (physically more than mentally) [Beer helps! :8:]
Can be messy, but surely that goes with manual labour.
Lots of lifting 20 Kg bags of addy and packs of tiles.

Upside:
You're the boss!
It's a finishing trade so customers always go "Wow!" (provided you do a good job!)
Totally relaxing and enjoyable trade.
Chance to express your creative side.

Startup costs:
I invested approx £7.5k in tools, training, van and marketing - never looked back.

I've earned over £25k in my first 7 months so money is there if you want it - it's all about your hunger and desire.

It's a great profession, and show it the respect the trade deserves, and you will succeed.

Good luck and success!
