Why do you want to fix a batten to the floor, battens are used on walls to counter the force of gravity, obviously this is irrelevant on a floor. If you want to use some kind of straight edge as a guide for your floor tiles then I would avoid using timber as it won't be straight, use a 1.8 level and stick a few stacks of tiles on it to hold in place
