Discuss 9mm Ceramic Wall and Floor Tile weight question. in the Tiling Standards area at TilersForums.com.

i'm going to be remodelling my own bathroom, but it has paramount boards for walls on 2 sides
(evil plaster board/ cardboard sandwich.)
and is plastered on breeze block the other 2.
the wall and floor ceramic tiles my wife wants have no m2/kg tile weight info,
just 1.08m2 per box of 6 tiles 9mm thick (600 x 300) and 17kg per box.
will this weight be ok to tile straight to plaster? (17kg divided by 1.08m2 =15.74 kg/m2)
as i thought 8mm was maximum thickness for ceramic tile to plaster?
TIA :)

They’ll be fine, its not tile thickness but the overall weight. 20 kg for those walls if skimmed.

Thanks David, at least i'll be able to use those tiles ok, :)

yes they are skimmed and plastered walls as i remember...
i tiled them myself about 20 years ago,
now i'm hoping i did a crap job and they will come off easy...lol.

the ones i wanted were 11mm porcelain...
so i would have to knock down 2 the paramount walls.
rebuild them as stud walls, re boarding both sides.
and tile board the whole bathroom...
...just too much hassle.
