Hi Eddie
so someone is going to the expense of refitting his bathroom with Travertine and hiring a professional tiler - only to ignore advice at the first opportunity? What is the reason for insisting on 9mm - to save money or keep the floor height down? You have options - tell him you can do it, but obtain a signed disclaimer that he ignored advice on the ply thickness - hence no guarantee, walk away ( it only takes one bad job to ruin your reputation), or convince him of the need for at least 15mm (or whatever you insist on). Me? I'd tell him that I wasn't prepared to lower my spec for the job and to find someone else.
Best of luck
