A Bad Two Days

I truly dont know whether as im getting older my tolerance levels are going down or people are getting stranger(you guys be the judge).Yesterday i went to start a job in a new build that i'd quoted, customer had chosen very large porcelain tiles,so i had said that floors needed to be plyed out,he replied "no problem his pal was a joiner".Arrived yesterday only to discover joiner had put down almost all the ply wood(i had to finish one of the rooms in order to start priming) but he had nailed it down in the kitchen and dining room.He had nailed it every 300mm but not even in the old school diagonal nail fashion that ive been told was the norm 30 years ago but straight on and had already become loose in some of the longer runs of the floor.Told customer that i was not willing to lay tiles on a floor that wasnt screwed and stated that i could only go by what i had been taught and that i couldnt guarantee the tile work otherwise. He phoned the joiner who asked to talk to myself and started ranting and raving about how he had been doing floor for tilers for 30 years and never had any problems but he would arrive back later that evening to complete my ridiculous demands. I arrived back that evening to finish the priming to find the joiner there who continued his line of abuse, asking if i realised how much money i was costing him.Dont tend to argue with people very often as a matter of principle and attempting to live a stress free life, however told him that if he had done it right in the first f*****g place then he wouldnt of had to come back.Told me that he had never heard of such crap in his life and could i prove what i had said.Went back to van and grabbed an empty adhesive bag which stated plywood floor requirements on the back and shoved it under his nose.Joiner still maintained i was talking crap, told him that i was surprised he could hear a word i said over the jangle of his spurs.I was promptly told to f*** off.Rest of job has been going fine but i still feel pretty miffed (and slightly violent,i am scottish after all).Maybe im just getting old.Sorry for the extended thread just needed to get it off my chest.

I'm the opposite, TBH.

I used to get upset quite quickly, especially when someone told me how to do my job. But nowadays I am pretty level headed.
I am still only 34 mind you, so maybe it will, one day, go back to the way it was when I was in my early 20's.:furious3::lol:

I think it's a case of "Oh well the tiler will sort it out". Two weeks ago i had a 44m kitchen floor to do in Jura Limestone. Between the plasterer and the builder they'd put down a very wonky screed and smiled and said," You'll be alright tiling onto that won't you, it's only sloping a bit in the corner", well it did slope a bit but not just in the corner, and there was a ridge running through the middle of it. Halfway through the job the plasterer admitted to me he'd thought as he bodged the screed, ah well it's the tilers problem now.
This week i've got 2 cottage floors to tile, 45m each, and the cowboys have been in town again!! I'm currently trying to straighten out a floor that can only be described as having the "soup bowl" effect. Builders had been in and had supposedly put down levelling compund.. MY ARSE have they, well they did but somehow it didn't self-level.
I think that there are too many people with the attitude of someone else will cover it so it doesn't matter, and we are being well and truly stitched up:mad2:

I'm only 29 but believe me he'd of only whinged for a few seconds before I gave him the choice to shut up or i'll shut him up myself.

Hello dew, I found that I've mellowed out as I got older but my patience wears thin if I've to handle the idiots/DIYers telling you your job:yawn:

it cant be an age thing. the joiner would still be trying to remove his hammer from his a**e if he would of spoke to me like that. and im normally calm and mild mannered
