A couple of questions...

Hi all. I've lined my bathroom with moisture resistant PB and I'm looking for a bit advice. It's not going to be a wet-room. Standard bath suite with over bath electric shower. I plan on using a tanking kit for the walls around the bath. My question is..... I want to put a bead of Silicon around the bath to seal it in place. Is it o.k. to do this before tanking or should I tank first?
I'll probably be using the BAL WP1 kit. I am aware that it contains joint tape. I take it that I just use normal plasterboard joint filler to fill the joints prior to tanking? TIA

If you mean tape jointing, I would'nt bother if you going to tank around your bath with the bal wp1

I prefer to Silicon baths and shower trays to the walls prior to tanking. That said, I use a membrane tanking rather than a paint on system but I would have thought that provided you give the Silicon time to cure that you will create a water tight seal and therefore eliminate any potential issues. As long as potential moisture behind tiles is forced to flow into the bath / shower tray then you should have no worries .

If the bath is not in place yet I would be inclined to tank the whole bath area including the floor, this will just help avoid any ceiling damage downstairs if there is any unlikely dripping from your waste trap
Also I would tape and fill the joints of the boards before tanking, especially if using BAL paint on system - it will just reinforce the joints and therefore eliminate any chance of the membrane splitting
Once thats all done and the bath is in place, then Silicon the joint between the bath and the wall before tiling and then also Silicon the 3mm joint you will leave between your bottom course of tiling and the rim of the bath then at that point sit down relax and :8:

Thanks for the replies lads. As much as tanking the whole lot appeals to me - two young kids who always seem to get more water on the floor than in the bath - cost is an issue. The bath is in place. Will Silicon it in today. More questions to follow.
