that's why I was thinking 499, 100 pages per book is 50 sheets per book, so that's 50 x 10 (minus the last page on the tenth book)

This is bugging me now... I thought like Doug but opted for 498 as he is already on the first sheet... OR!!!! is it just one page, as the last page of the last book is the start of the first???

You've got it :hurray: (as did Sir Ramic). If you imagine a row of 10 books they will be from left to right with vol. 1 on the left. The first page of vol. 1 is the the right side of the book and the last page of vol. 10 is on the left of it. So only 800 pages between them.

Anyone else got one? I think everyone knows the snail in the well one?....or do they?

I had to pick up a book to suss it, then the penny dropped, when you open a book page one is on your left but when you put the book on a shelf page one is on the right

so I admit I didnt do it mentally but practicly
