Adding more/extra Adhesive

Hi all.

I'm laying Ceramic Floor Tiles in my hallway (300mm x 600mm x 10mm). I am using a 10mm notched trowel to apply the adhesive to the floor. I've laid 8 tiles so far and all are level. I am finding now that the next tile(s) I need to lay need, more adhesive than the beads of adhesive left behind by dragging the trowel along the floor at approx. 45 degrees. The weight of the tile is squashing down the adhesive lower than the previous tile. I have considered scooping a small amount of adhesive and dropping it in random areas. Is this ok to do this? What can I do in this situation?

Spread the back of the tile. It will all depend on how much the adhesive manufacturer says that you can bed up to.

Ok, so would I do this by scraping off onto the edges (all around and then an amount into the centre of the tile) of the tile, adhesive that is on a trowel, in a similar way to dot and dabbing a plasterboard to a wall.

No, dont dot and dab it, it needs to be 100% coverage on the floor. If the tile is pressing down too hard try making your mix slightly stiffer. Then use the back of the trowel, the flat side to skim the back of the tile with a layer of adhesive. You can vary the thickness of this to suit your needs. However do check the adhesives capabilities in terms of thickness on the instructions

Basically spread floor and tile then you will have double the thickness but as above...there are limits the adhesive can go to.
