just been asked to give an estimate for 5m2 of marble on a bathroom floor, what is the right addy to use?.gonna overboard with 12mm ply and was thinking of using white spf.also any advice on joint size and cutting.cheers boys. also how much per metre for laying marble(working in north west/wigan area)

SPF should be fine for marble. If the marble is light in colour i.e. translucent when you hold it up to the light use white adhesive and back butter so you get 100% coverage and you dont see the adhesive ribs when you lay it. The grout joints are up to the customer BS states minimum 3 mm but sometimes customers want it tighter. Try and use a fine grout like Mapei Kerracolour which is good up to 6mm grout gap. I would charge arount £45 M2 for that job but you are best to get other advice regarding prices as I have not fixed for over 18 months. Wet cut and watch for veining where you cut because marble tends to be weaker where the veins are in most cases.

Wth only 12mm ply overlay, you may want to consider Ardex-flex 7001 in white. BAL won't guarantee SPF on anything less than 18mm ply. You could also use white BAL Fastflex but it is costly.

White is only required if the marble is white or opaque. Quality has its' price....Gaz
