I am about to tank a shower room prior to a tiler coming in to tile on top.
My question is simple. Is it necessary to use certain tanking materials with specific adhesives.

The tiler says he much prefers to use a two part powder Mapei adhesive. Should I therefore find a Mapei tanking product?

The tiler does not do tanking which is why I will have to attempt the job myself using the paint on Silicon stuff with taped edges!:dizzy2:

I always use cement based Flexi on tanked walls, just to be safe and make sure the tiles stick properly.
Some brands of tanking such as the Ardex System do not like tub adhesive. Saw one job that had been done : Ardex tanking, ceramic tiles, tub adhesive : The tiles fell off the wall, adhesive did not set properly or bond to the wall.

Cheers Dave.
Quick answer...yes I can wallpaper but this looks a little more complicated to me.:yikes:
Three more Q's now...What is this product? How much is the cost in comparison to solution kits?
Will the tilers Mapei adhesive work with this wallpaper :) !!?

If he is using cement based adhesive yes.... still can't get around why he doesn't do tanking though wishy..

He comes highly recommended by the staff at my local CTD...but yes he said he hasn't done tanking so wouldn't commit to doing it.
Very difficult to find trusted tradesmen particularly as this is the second attempt at the shower room, The tiles fell off the last time. Boards not fixed correctly and not tanked, etc etc...

Don't want to go through that again so must be right this time!!!

wetdec

Just a quick Q dave, how much is the tanking gear never use that brand.

If you email me with your needs I will price it for you

Quick answer...yes I can wallpaper but this looks a little more complicated to me.

No its easy because its applied with adhesive you can adjust it as you need to (new video coming soon)

What is this product?

Its called Dura-wp and it a german tanking membrane that we sell in the uk

I always use cement based Flexi on tanked walls, just to be safe and make sure the tiles stick properly.

As Leatherface says flexi powdered adhesive on tanked walls and floors, The Dura-wp is fixed with Flexi powdered adhesive as well so no messing with pots of resins etc.
