adhesives vs. thinset

I notice everyone mentioning adhesive for setting tile. I've used it on walls but always used thinset on concrete floors.
Do pro's call thinset an adhesive or is it totally different?

Same thing , tends to be USA that call it thinset.

They call latex based modified thinset.. basicly thinset is an adhesive designed for thin bed setting .. unlike quite a few adhesives we have that bed to 12mm + etc..
