I'm going to be installing Marmox multi boards, on two (internal walls) I'll use 4mm, just so I have a nice flat surface to tile with (the surface underneath the plaster is a bit rough and not plumb. The 4mm need to be 'stuck' with cement based adhesive.

On the external two walls I'll use 20mm for some extra insulation, without eating too much into the room size. For these I'm going to be dot and dabbing, then using the fixing dowels.

For the adhesive for the boarding should I be using the standard set I'll be using for the tiles, or is there something more suitable?

I did think it'd give me a bit of 'practice' with mixing up small batches which would serve me well when I get to tiling.

What is more suitable for bathroom/showers/tile materials? Marmox boards are specially designed for showers etc. Tile adhesive is your best bet. I would use slow set, but you don't have to you can use speed set as well.

How to install Marmox Multiboards on a solid wall - adhesive fixed

Preparation: Measure Marmox Multiboards and cut to size. Tile backer boards are very easy to cut with a knife or saw.

Fixing: Use a 6/8mm trowel to comb adhesive over the who surface of the Marmox Multiboard. For uneven walls increase to a 20mm trowel. Push firmly onto wall. Ideally stagger the joints if you can.

Tiling: Be sure to tape all the joints with Marmox Reinforcing scrim tape, except in wet areas where Marmox Self-Adhesive Waterproof tape should be used. The boards are now ready to be tiled.

Plastering: Seal boards together using a bead of Multibond prior to scrim-taping, do not use Waterproof tape under plaster. The boards are now ready to be plastered.

How to install Marmox Multiboards on a solid wall - dot & dab fixed

Preparation: Create 5 fixing holes through the Marmox Multiboard. 12.5mm board thickness is the minimum thickness for this fixing method.

Fixing: Put a dab of tile adhesive over the holes positions. Offer the board up to the wall, push firmly, and then use a spirit level to get everything level. Once your tile adhesive has dried, drill the holes out. Place the dowl in through the board into the wall and then hammer in the pin.
