Advice for shower area

I am doing a complete re-fit of the bathroom in my house. I'm a bricklayer by trade but have done small areas of tiling (anything large I pass on to other tilers). Theres quite a few pipes on the wall so I'm planning on studding out the wall so I can hide all the pipes and have a nice clean looking finish. I was planning on putting ply rather than plasterboard on the stud wall so I can fix the shower to the wall easily, would this be ok and would I need marine ply? Or is there a different material I should use? And also do I need to treat the ply or whatever is best to put on the wall with anything?

Nooooo use plaster board and tank it or cement boards.....much better job than ply..

I wouldn't fix tiles to plywood walls. By all means use ply onto the studwork, like you said it makes it easy to fix shower and fittings etc but go with backer boards over the ply and fix tiles to this.

12mm Hardie Tile Backer boards or Aquapanel are the material of the present.

Think I'll go with the backer board as suggested in the shower area and plasterboard outside of the shower area. I'll knock the ply on the head and just make sure I put noggings in the right place for the shower.

Good choice. ..most failures I come across are tiles fixed to ply...

Both suggested materials are extremely strong and rigid.
Make sure you tape and seal all joins and corners to make fully water resistant.
