Hello to all,

I'm sure you've been asked this a million times before but here goes.

I have a brick plastered bathroom wall coated with emulsion paint that i plan to tile, the wall was painted about four years ago and is as smooth as a snooker table.

The tape test removes some of the emulsion so I assume paint removal is my best option:

Can you advise of a product I can apply to help remove the paint.
Which primer should I apply.
What type of tile adhesive should I buy.

The tiles are 330mm x 250mm ceramic.

Hi Bert,

Asander is your best option to remove the paint. You will require a cement based adhesive, and I would advise on a slower setting one! Mapei p9 would be a good option, 5 hre pot life i think! And Primer G (mapei)

What tile shops is there near you?

If you have a wallpaper steamer, give that a go on the paint, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. If theat fails, as above, get the sander out.

or you could scribe the wall lightly exposing the plaster and then use a wallpaper scraper to remove any loose paint and debris and then use a brush to remove dust and then pva bond the wall this will give you a bond to the plaster and not the paint. You need to make sure that you are scribing enough to ensure a minumum of 70% bond tile to plaster.

have you had a bad experience with pva??
