Hi,

We will be tiling our bathroom soon and need advice regarding surafce prep. Far wall (away from the bath) has new plasterboard, window wall has been sand/cement rendered 1 month ago, and the wall adjacent to the p-shaped shower bath has emulsion paint.

My question is what prep., if any , do i need to do? Can I tile straight onto the painted surface? What about the rendered wall? Do I need to prime first?

Any advice appreciated

Welcome to the forum.

You cant tile onto a painted surface, you need to remove the paint first. As for the rendered wall you need to prime it before tiling

... Thanks for that - What's the easiest way to remove the emulsion paint from the walls? Could I use a wallpaper steamer? What about the new plasterboard wall (nowhere near water) - would i need to prime that also?
