Hi All

I had a wet room installed two years ago, by a member of the family (builder by trade) in the en suite of our Master Bedroom, located on the third floor of the house.

It was prepared very well, with 3/4" Marine Ply boards fixed onto floorboards, a high quality thick and rubberised (and very sticky) tanking membrane layed across the whole floor (and half way up the walls) and a good quality adhesive used to lay floor tiles.

Question now is, can i get an expert tiler in, to quote to re-tile on top of the existing floor tiles? We want to use a good quality slate type tile.

Can anyone forsee any issues or problems?

Thanks In Advance.

Regards

A professional tiler may be reluctant to tile on top of existing tiles. If a tiler comes out to quote & doesn't question this, I would be weary of his experience & quality of work. Don't get me wrong, it can be done but your question was can you get an EXPERT tiler in to tile on top.

What are the tiles that are currently laid & do you know exactly what adhesive was used? The correct preparation is key

As everyone says it would need to come up, otherwise the tiler is added lots more weight to the floor, which is bad, plus he's inheriting any mistakes that the previous tiler could have made.
But, if it does come up the odds are the waterproofing will be compromised so this will all need replacing.
Not a simple job this, as any mistakes made have very bad and damp consequences.
