Hi All

Some advice needed please,

My folks have a catering company and they have a large area at the front of the building where they park there vans,

Question???

The floor is around 70 sq meters the subtrate is concrete and has a SLC over the top,
There may or may not be a damp membrane in the floor,
How would i go about tiling this,

There would be vans parked on it over night and must be easy to clean and hard wearing?????

Any help and advice would be great guys

Many thanks

Gareth

Sulphate-resistant, cement-based, pourable, thick-bed solid-bed floor tile adhesive suitable for fixing ceramic tiles, quarries, natural stone and terrazzo in interior and exterior situations. Its consistency makes it particularly suitable for fixing large tiles and those with profiled backs. Back-buttering is not necessary. Suitable for use on concrete, cement:sand screeds, ceramic/quarry tile/terrazzo/hard natural stone, plywood overlay, vinyl tiles/sheet, mastic asphalt. BS EN 12004 C2F Adhesive

hello mate...
If it has been used for parking cars/vans etc ...Then if there is oil leaks etc this could cause any adhesives not to stick to these parts....
You will to thoroughly clean the floor first...maybe a jet wash and clean detergents etc....
Then check for any dips etc and level as necessary....
I would think about using Ditra on this job and this will take all the stress from driving vehicles over the tiles ....

These are my recommendations for materials.....

BAL Multibase
multibase.jpg

A polymer modified, cement-based, rapid-hardening, water resistant, protein and ammonia free self-smoothing compound for use in interior areas. The product is pumpable and sulphate resistant and can be used to level a variety of bases including concrete, cement:sand screeds, anhydrite screeds, adhesive residues, asphalt, terrazzo and unglazed ceramic tiles. Suitable for use under ceramic tiles, natural stone, sheet and soft floor coverings. Can be used from featheredge up to 5mm and from 5-20mm with the addition of 3mm granite chippings. Will accommodate thermal movement and limited vibration/movement. The compound can take foot traffic after 3 hours. Ceramic tiles can be fixed after 4 hours and soft-floor coverings after 24 hours.

6-01_DITRA.jpg

The bottom of the square cavities in Schlüter-DITRA, which are filled with thin-bed adhesive, directly transfer the load impact on the tile covering to the substrate. As a consequence, tile coverings installed on top of Schlüter-DITRA are highly load resistant. If high traffic loads are expected (e.g. in industrial locations), the tiles selected for the installation must be of the corresponding thickness and pressure stability. The requirements of the mandatory guideline “Ceramic Floor Coverings With High Impact Resistance,” published by the German Construction Industry Association (ZDB) must be followed. In areas with high impact loads, the tiles must be fully embedded in the thin-bed adhesive. The contact surface of Schlüter-DITRA amounts to approximately 50% of the total surface. This can reduce the load bearing capacity in case of point loads. For high point loads, select a tile thickness that is capable of distributing the loads. Ceramic tile coverings should not be exposed to the direct impact of hard objects. The tile dimensions should be at least 50 mm x 50 mm

BAL Motobond

A rapid setting, highly polymer modified, water, frost and sulphate resistant floor tile adhesive, with exceptional compressive and adhesion strengths, specifically designed to withstand heavy loading and trafficking. Suitable for use on concrete, cement:sand screeds, anhydrite screed, BAL levelling compounds, epoxy resin-based coatings, terrazzo, unglazed ceramic tiles, mastic asphalt. Conforms to BS EN 12004, Type C, Class 2F.
BAL Superflex Wide Joint Grout
superflex_wide.jpg

A highly flexible, water and frost-resistant cement-based powder grout with built-in admixture specially designed for use in areas where increased flexibility and enhanced durability are required. Suitable for grouting tiles with joint widths up to 20mm. Suitable for interior and exterior locations on both wall and floor tiling. Ideal for grouting limited movement areas such as timber floors or heated screeds. Suitable for grouting in swimming pools. Conforms to BS EN 13888, Type C, Class G2.

As for the tiles i would use a porcelain bodied tile..large format....

good luck..........

p.s...You will need to think about expansion joints in the floor as well.... fixed at intervals according to guidelines....
