Advice needed........

Hi

I am looking for some advice, as I have a cloakroom floor to tile (1.7m sq). the tiles to be laid are 300mm square ceramic. the floor is only half inch ply which will require some noggins to strengthen and then I was going to screw the exisiting ply at 150/200mm centre where the flloor joist allow. I have been reading about ditra matting and thought about using this in order to keep the finished floor level down and it seems to be highly reccommended for tiling on timber floors with slight movement? Is this best or should i use 6mm ply?

If I use ditra do I need to prime the exisiting ply floor before laying the ditra matting? What adhesives would be best for this flooring, i have been quoted a good price on nicobond rapidflex(green bag)? Finally what grout would anyone reccommend.

To be honest m8 if it was me i'd just use ply on a small erea.


I use Bal Bond neat on the ply and then use Bal rapid flexi and superflex grout.

I have also used toppsfix rapid set flexi which i found okay but you can get the quality suff pretty cheap anyway now.

On that size foor i would just use BAL fastflex...straight onto the subfloor as long as you say it is prepped well..........

the timber floor as it stands is made up of only half inch ply, which needs to be noggined to stop the movement and then screwed down. so if i was to lay a 6mm ply on this and screw that down to the exisiting half inch ply I should be okay as long as I use bal rapid flexi or fastflex? You don't rate this ditra matting or just think that its an overkill, although I do need to keep the finished floor level down and ditra would do that?

neither of you said anything about the nicobond rapid adhesive, is it not and good?

Sorry barny mate only ever use BAL gear...so can't comment on nicobond..we do have members who use it though , so maybe someone might reply shortly.......

i was in N&C tile style last week who only sell nicobond and they recon its on a par wiv Bal and the tub gear is better, but that may just be sales talk.
