advice on tile skirting?

can someone advise me on how to do a tile skirting,tips ect whether to use a trim at the top of them or not ect any help be greatly appreciated

if they're ceramic/porcelain tiles, I normally use a flat edge trim on the tops, stone I tend to leave natural.

What are the skirtings made from ?

hi just going to cut them from porcelain tile ,floor looks good but ive never been asked to do a tile skirting ,what height ?4"? and do i lay them like ordinary tile with a Silicon edge betwen floor and skirting and if so il have to grout along the top against wall do i?

Just let the customer decide on the size. There usually 100-120mm but I've done them at 150mm before now but don't think that looks right. Again let the customer decide wether they want trim or not.

If the skirting is to sit on the tile (ie.the floor has been layed first) I space them 3mm off the floor. Grout the vertical joints and Silicon the joint to the floor tile with a colour to match the grout. I tend to cut them to the same height as the wooden skirting in the house, satisfies my need for straight lines! The top edge is the customers choice whether to trim or not. I don't grout the top edge, I prefer to use flexible filler as you would with a wooden skirt. Less likely to crack and easier to decorate.
