Hi there. Need some expert help/guidance/advice please.

I plan to tile the entire floor of newly created kitchen/dining room that I will get by combining the space from areas previously used as inner hallway/downstairs loo & a kitchen.

Firstly though I need to replace the current chipboard floor built over a hotchpotch of joists and concrete sleeper walls. There is an approx 3 ft void below the floor which I also need to insulate appropriately as part of replacing the floor just as soon as the plumbers and electricians have finished doing their stuff!

My question is, given that I would like to tile the floor (5.25m x 2.85m), what is the best material to replace the floor with but at the same time the most economical. Then what would be the best product to fix the tiles with (tile type not currently decided).

Options with pros & cons would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Lisa

Hi & thanks for the couple of quick replies. Some more info to answer questions/clarify any confusion I may have caused.

I will be insulating all of the ground floor in the house (with kingspan or similar) between the joists because we have suspended timber floors (mixture of floorboards in orig house & chipboard in 30yr old ext) over a very cold & drafty void.

The kitchen/dining room in question is in the extension and is 22mm chipboard which isn't sound hence needing to replace anway.

I am going to ensure all of the joists are made solid before fixing new flooring.

Tile could be just a ceramic but natural stone would be nice if I can find some at the right price, ie low as I have very limited budget.

I just need to know what would be the best replacement for the worn out chipboard that I can tile over and achieve a good long lasting result.

Sorry for any confusion, hope this is clearer.
