Advice Please!!!!

Just went to look at a job....The walls are artexed with blue paint over the top....
I’ve checked for what adhesives to use.....
BAL white star
BAL Grip
BAL Green star

All said its ok for paint covered walls...Its in a bathroom........Reasons i’m asking is because i’m scared of the tiles no sticking...
Tiles are the cheap Wall Tile (15x15cm)


What are your thoughts....It might be more trouble than its worth

I'd cover it with Maplastic HDG,for waterproofing then tile on top of that,best to be sure.

I've never tiled over artex (never been asked TBH) and don't think I ever would, it's a decrotive covering not a solid substrate in my mind

tiling on artex - sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Why not take the artex off. Steam stripper and paint scraper would probably do the job.

I wouldn't use tubbed addy, use a cement based especially in a bathroom

too right remove artex with steam stripper and use powdered addy

dries way quicker too

wear a dust mask/respirator when stripping off the artex too

But if it's been painted over be prepared for it to take a VERY long time to get off. Did just this for a ceiling a few weeks ago and it took two days to get off about 4m2!!

Artex is as good as the person who applied it, if it's bad your moisture in the addy can release the artex from the wall.....

As said a big no no.

Depending on how old the artex is.. BEWARE old stuff can contain Asbestos..

as ajax says take it off with a steam stripper comes off quite easy
