I here what your saying and I'm the same only been shafted once by a charity of all things and most do pay.......eventually!! But that's the point I don't want to waste my time or go through the stress of chasing money.
How many times have you actually been paid when they say there going to pay Without having to prompt them for payment?.
I've even had firms that only pay when you threaten legal action after months of broken promises.....
Yep can relate to that, only one contractor I've worked for paid bang on time and that's cuz he knew if the cheque wasn't on the doorstep Saturday morning we wouldn't be turning up Monday, they never missed..
Most do need a gentle reminder, but that can also be said for domestics, only last week had someone tell me they'll pay Thurs, got to Saturday and no money gone in...quick to the point text and was paid first thing Monday. Never had to get legal with anyone though...yet!!

The only time I have never gotten my money is when a firm has gone bump.
yep, had that happen to me twice.......not massive amounts £1200 and £600......but some of the builders I ve worked for I've had to end up going direct to accounts on the phone and be quite stern to get them to make payment even though payment terms agreed !!....they don't give a rubbish whether you have kids to feed and a mortgage to pay.......just find I've had to chase cheques/payments too often and then been messed about by a couple of domestic clients recently and that's why I'm going to work for another tiling contractor......can't be dealing with the stress anymore......( regular money/paid weekly ......and for that reason.....IM OUT!......

Never had a problem with domestic customers till direct bank payment became so popular as I never left there house without payment.
Now your putting your trust in people doing what they say there going to do and pay online....and like you I've had to prompt people to pay.....dose my head in really...if they say there going to pay that day then bloody pay it !! Because if they don't I'm on the phone next day finding out why.....you give some people an inch and they take a mile.

I've had one kitchen fitting outfit do me about of about £1600, I should have known better as I knew he had changed company names a few times, but he was a friend of a friends sort of so I trusted him, he now pays me £30 a month after I took him to court. Only other time I've been done is working for a builder, we agreed a day rate and when the job was finished, I ended up waiting til the entire job was finished, about 6 weeks, then he did me out of a day saying the customer disputed a few hours so he had to take a knock on money. Needs less I didn't work for him again.
I wouldn't work for any of these massive companies or 30 day payers. Too risky for a one man band like myself. Your just some tiler, they have no issues shafting you however they choose.
