Advice pls: Floor has already had PVA!!

Looked at it the other day in a builders yard, not sure I would trust it.

like a wood composite board but not mdf. Big sheets.

You will need to find out if you can tile on it, might just need a primer or some kind of over boarding like no more ply. I am sure someone on here will put you right

Thats bad mike!

I recall we all decided it wasnt worth the risk of tiling onto. It was a waterproof coating if i recall correctly and grey in colour?

Hi all
sorry it does not have a grey coating nor any visible coating.
It is quite thick and yes I agree probably a chipboard.

Builders suggested just seal it and it would be fine to tile. In fact they were supposed to seal it because I asked for marine ply in the bathroom and as I didn't get it I wanted to be sure it was waterproofed - although it shouldn't actually get wet.

Perhaps you could recommend a good sealer/waterproofer that wont' react with any floor adhesive I might use?

so what to do about the PVA? Do I rub down the floorboarding/plaster?
Or as it's only a very watered down coating will it not matter and can I go ahead with using suggested adhesives?

and should I seal all surfaces?
I want to be sure water in the shower area will not penetrate tiles to ply/plasterboard underneath nor into floorboarding sheets and cause problems that could not be solved without ripping the tiling.

you will get away with rubbing down the wall but the floor will need either the floor replacing with ply or over boarding with 18mm wbp ply

can't replace the floor, as sheets are spilt between bathroom and bedroom area because of ensuite positioning within bedroom. Unfortunately, can't overboard as no tolerence over and above tile height -

only option I appear to be left with is to seal or not to seal before tiling.

Alternative to 18mm WBP possible?

Just wondering :idea3: if there is an alternative to 18mm WBP?

If we could get away with an alternative overlay product say max 6mm what would you recommend?
