Hi guys I could do with some advise on a job I picked up today.

It's a bath surround that has awful leakage the substrate what ever it might be is wet and there for the 20+ year old tiles have started to pop off. they have been tiled over tile.

My plan is to strip it all off both layers of tiles and fix backer board to the 4.5m2 area that will need re tiling. Then tank it out and tile over with cheapest tiles I can get my hands on and Silicon to make watertight.

Is this the right action to take? And what problems might I incur? Here's a little info on the customer, she is a disabled old lady who really has not got the money to get this job done any other way than on the cheap. I'm only going to charge her for the materials and do it on a week end so I dont cost me anything. you may say I'm nuts but she's such a lovely old lady and truly cant afford to get it done any other way.

Good Man Prem,

You never know what your going to find until you rip it out and look, maybe rotten joists on the floor or rotten studding on the wall, hopefully not in this case though, maybe carma will come into play and because your doing a good dead everything will go like clockwork.

And hopefuly you wont out a screw into a pipe and have the little old lady sue you

Where are you based mate, maybe some members can come give you a hand?

I'm a true believer in karma afer all I never miss an episode of my name is earl! lol

I've been cleaning this old girls windows every month for over 4 years and she always offers me a T even though I never say yes.

It will also give me the exsperiance of making good a bad job. So its not 100% freebee.

Any idea where the wetness comes from? Close all water outlets and shut down the water main. If pressure falls she has a severe pipe leakage.

cheers for the pointer but its just getting through the Silicon seal. I'll take plenty of photos you will have to see it to belive it.
