Hi Luke
I prefer to use marmox board on stud walls and have not had any problems, just make sure you have plenty of noggins especially behind all horizontal joints in the board. Then fix with the appropriate fixings, silicone all edges of butt joints in board, then a little joint tape and/or paint on membrane.
If its a solid wall then prep accordingly and either use homelux matting to tank or a liquid solution such as BAL WP1.

With regards to Marmox trays, the showerstone version is very good, beware of the cheaper showerlay board as this is a compressive board and the outlet for the waste is plastic on top(not very nice plastic at that) also the adjustment for tile thickness is not particuarly variable with only 10mm increments, this can prove problematic as I found out.

Hope this helps.
