Advise on slate tiles??

Hi Guy's,

Just went to look at a job i'm going to be doing in the next couple of week's and was looking for some advice.
The customer has got slate floor tiles(600x300) and was just wondering how they are to cut-i have a big clinker and a Erbauer 720w wet cutter?? will these be ok??
What adhesive would you advise using for fitting them onto ply?
The wall tiles are of similar if not the same size and i haven't yet experienced using tiles of this size-do i just use the same method when it comes to applying adhesive??

There is a lot of chinese slate about crap stuff....... I would use a wet cutter my self and Topps own flexi on ply also you need to seal it before grout again topps do a large tin for this good price to

I would say that your wet cutter should be able to cope with them tiles ok..maybe slow work but ok...Make sure the tiles are clean before you seal them and use a thickbed flexi adhesive to cope with the irregularities of large format slate....these are the products i would use and you can get them from CTD in glasgow....

Hi mate, if you have a steady hand then an angle grinder with a decent turbo blade is as good as anything. Use mine loads on slate.

A little tip - if you get any slight lipping or stteppiln on corners due to unevenness of slate - then gently chip off a layer or 2 on ther offending corner with a hammer and chisel.

i have previously used "tile it all" s own adhesive!! have you tried this? whats your opinion?

Would advise sealing the tiles prior to laying as much easier to clean. Also grade the slate before fixing as it will probably be different thicknesses. Start with thickest ifrst on floor then build up thinner ones to same level. Leave the thinnest tiles of all for round the edges of the floor where there will be less foot traffic.

And dont forget your diamond drills. Diamond is excellent on slate (we sell a lot of these to roofers working with slate roofing tiles)

In slate you get precission holes without chipping or cracking the slate. And because slate is softer than granite and porcelain its quicker to cut.
