Alternative to tanking

G

Gentleman Jim

Hi chaps and chapesses
What do folks think of the Homelux waterproof membrane as an alternative to tanking. The guys in Topps seem to be very keen and are usually very reliable in my area. Have any of you used this product and if so how easy to apply/effective does it seem to be?
Thanks for your input.
Regards
Jim

I have used it jim and it is fine to use as well.....but it is cheaper from ctd then topps...ctd are about £30 ish for a 5 mtr roll.......

Hi Jim,

Used this on a couple of wetrooms recently and thought it was good product and will be using it from now on. Used to use tilesafe but it is nasty stuff especially when you stick to it laying tiles.

The problem is it doesnt flex like Durabase does and you have to use different versions for floor and wall. Its a DIY product and marketed as such, to do a thorough job of tanking you want to be using flexible tape and corners etc so any movement doesnt cause fractures.

I had this discussion with the rep from the the producers of these membranes the other day and out of a portfolio covering all we see and more only a couple use a flexible jointing system. To quote him why the hell do they bother with flex this and flex that to balls it up with non flex jointing and collars. The answer of course is price.

I can buy pro gear from companies with a history in the membrane industry or I can buy economy generic from just anyone.... you too have that choice

@ Highlander you have gone from fireplace to fire m8 there is enough margin to be made with the Pro gear and you have a specialist comeback should you ever have a problem......worth its weight

i have used it and it is good stuff, i use bag addesive as tub addesive takes longer to go off

Cheers for that wetdec..i wasn't aware of it not flexing like kerdi or durbase does....shall not be using it any more....i have used it in two showers but not as a crack bridger so will be fine...

p.s. sent a pm.......

Remember that Kerdi tape isnt flexible either. Our corner tapes have 50mm flex in the centre, I just now 2 minutes ago stretched that by an inch side to side.

I don't use the tape ....just another supplier add on...i just cut strips off the kerdi sheet..........

Nope...!!..

Just use flexi adhesive ( cement based )....i make sure i have 100mm over lap on each side....

Do you use kerdi coll for fixing the strips Dave??

Another orange man . maybe I should send you a sample tooo

You dont have to use any special adhesive providing it is a reputable flexible it will fix the Durabase CI uncoupling, Durabase WP tanking membrane and the orange stuff.

I agree when joining legnths of tanking membrane together then it is a sales ploy but when taping corners and material transitions it should be done properly with a flexible tape as using membrane it can tear breaking the tank.

Fireplace to fire new one on me mate must be a southern expression. I have used it on concrete floors so far and it has made life easier. I used tilesafe all the time but it is a pain in the butt really sticky stuff. But I understand where your coming from.
