Though I'd agree about the standard in the 2 pictures of this job , I'am not sure if there is a TF standard or any criteria to define an acceptable job!

At the end of be day, the customer is always right... If they're happy, it's acceptable. If they're not, it's not. Once in a blue moon, you may get a completely unreasonable customer, who is just trying to get the job for free, or a discount, but I certainly don't think it's unreasonable to expect a finish that isn't badly chipped on the cut edges.

Is the trim something that the tiler has put in or is it something pre-exsting around the window that the tiler has tiled up to?

It looks like tile trim to me, so I'd say the tiler has installed it.
