As much as I hate to back-peddle, I've just seen the pic on my ipad, and realise it's a brushed trim. Brushed would have to be mitred, because of the grain.

Though I'd agree about the standard in the 2 pictures of this job , I'am not sure if there is a TF standard or any criteria to define an acceptable job!

At the end of be day, the customer is always right... If they're happy, it's acceptable. If they're not, it's not. Once in a blue moon, you may get a completely unreasonable customer, who is just trying to get the job for free, or a discount, but I certainly don't think it's unreasonable to expect a finish that isn't badly chipped on the cut edges.
