Just finished a job today, was’nt going bother about talking about it but just to get it off my chest. The guy who owns the house is a retired teacher and a carer who’s about sixty and is also a diabetic. The teacher has a bath in the morning and on my first day there he was in there for two hours, no noise just silence, I did ask the lodger to knock on the door to check on him after he told me of his diabetic problems. He then took him up a sugery drink.
The guy who lodges with him is the one who’s cared for and has paranoid schizophrenia, he also is an alcoholic and from the terms of usage uses many chemicals. I would turn up in the morning, walk into the house and there would be cans of stella on a table which he had consumed in the morning by about 8-30. During the day two bottles of wine then more beers, pub for three hours at lunch time, this is every day I was there. He has a fortnightly home visit for an injection to control his schizophrenia and it was this week. I have never seen a guy so “out of it”, he would be all over the place, then want to come and talk because he did’nt want to be on his own and wanted company. He’s actually a nice bloke when he’s not spaced out on booze and chemicals.

Just a day in the life of a tiler.

I'd been in my previous employment to this one only 3 weeks when a new recruit asked for a meeting with me and admitted to being an alcoholic. We spent most of the morning talking about what he wanted to do next. He told me he was going straight home to tell his parents, but he walked in the opposite direction to the train station and walked straight towards all the bars and pubs. He didn't come back to work after that.

I did a bathroom remodel years ago for a guy that was what I call a professional pot smoker. He came home each day at lunch and took several bong hits. He then got home at ~330 or 400 each afternoon and took more bong hits and started drinking beer. Many days, he would come into the bedroom, position himself in the doorway to watch what I was doing, set the bong on the windowsill, and sit down on his cooler of beer. Somehow, with only two hands, he could keep a beer, cigarette, and the bong going simultaneously. :D He was courteous enough to be sure to blow the cigarette smoke and the bong hits out of the window in the bathroom.
