reply from ajs heating re duncans (db tiling message)

(another one that knows it all and don't like the truth.

wonder why when you tell them the truth they get the camel)

and another

what makes you say they are succesful ?

(so your telling me you can learn water regs, part h building regs, notching, ventilation, pipe sizing, sanitation, activity space in a bathroom, disability regs.

not in 5 days. half of them won't even know what they mean let alone doing them)

the guys attitude stinks this is all the proof you need to show how unhelpful this guy.

I did a 5 day plumbing course and have found it very useful. However, I only did it because when I was tiling I got fed up waiting for the "Plumber" the client had booked. So I did the course then offered full fits on all my quotes. I have to agree with the guy I don't know all the regs but I can do a full swap in a bathroom, stuff like change stop taps, change Hot & Cold Tanks, sort radiators etc etc. The only thing I won't touch are boilers. The course was to benefit me and it has. I don't call myself a plumber though.

Hi
I have to agree not the most helpfull bunch, but uug has help me out big time with pricing plumbing jobs and advice so i still like to use it. I have done a plumbing course as well as the tiling course and have spent a lot of money to re train after been made redundant. I do realise that plumbing/tiling are trades that take years to perfect and i will not take on a job im not happy with or i will teem up with a mate who did the same plumbing course and did his Part P when i did the tiling. If it wasen't for the tiling forum i would have been stuck for advice and i have learned lots from reading old posts, cheers all that have helped. As for the plumbing forum i will use it and you get to know who will give advice so cheers to uug, maybe we should start a section on here to try help each other were posible, i would be more than happy to help anybody in the Leeds/Bradford are that was stuck (even with my limited skills :joker:)
Cheers

I have to agree with all of the above.

However, there are a few users ( uug197h is one of them ) that are helpful and supportive. I re-trained as a plumber, doing a 20 week C&G course. I've since added tiling to my skills but only tend to offer tiling as part of the plumbing jobs i'm doing. The one thing I have accepted and understood from the outset is that it is impossible to have all of the necessary skills for a trade after completing a short or fast-track course. It's much more about the attitude and approach that you apply to that trade.

Forums are only as good as the people who use and support them and it's what makes this one so good. Everyone's willing to offer help, advice and encouragement to anyone who asks for it

It's very unfortunate that the plumbing forum seems to be tainted by the opinions and attitudes of a minority - NOT ALL PLUMBERS ARE LIKE THIS

actually i was also a anoyed at some of ajs heatings comments but i do understand where he is coming from. the only thing he could do is explain them in a nice way like the thread faithhealer copied he shouldnt put people off about getting into the trade but as we all agree that with a recession looming its going to be the fittest will survivethere are alot of new tilers and the is a shortage of work i do believe it is very difficult the set up now and the chances of being succesful are limited.

if you have been made redundant then there is nothing to lose really. i have mentioned to ajs that his comments arent appreciated i think he is a proud time served guy who seems to now his i cant fault him for that
