Hi all, I'm glad I found this forum as I think it has helped me clarify a great deal of confusion I have 'suffered' regarding aquapanel, and has raisde other qusetions! I bought and installed the stuff from wickes as per instrucs and sealed the joints with their tape. I then saw this site

Building a shower Cubicle

that scared me no end! Do I really need to do the tanking I wondered. Am I correct in assuming that the aquapanel is not waterproof but will not disintegrate like pboard? Also is is correct that if I want a waterproof enclosure it need to be tanked? Any suggestions for tanking?

A lot will depend on the usage of the shower, where it is and what you expect from it. Generally showers that are only used say once a day will suffer very few problems with leakage if they are built/tiled correctly. if in the other hand you have a power shower and about half a dozen people using it twice a day then you have more of an issue. The aquapanel will prevent your tiles falling off if the substrate gets wet for any length of time, but if you want to keep water in the shower vacinity completely i.e. to save a ceiling below, then tanking is the only option really.

Thanks guys, trying now to figure out whether to go with the BAL, Dunlop or other kits. It is a shower over a bath, enclosed on three sides with the aquapanel. About to calculate how much tape I would need and which kit would supply it. At the point where the aquapanel meets the bath I have used silicon would I need to add anything else prior to using one of these kits?

Put your tile against the wall and onto the edge of the bath, using a pencil up to the tile and run the tile along the bath edge with the pencil making a line. Put masking tape just over the pencil line towards the wall, do this where the bath meets the wall. If you use bal wp1 it will help when you use the jointing tape with wp1 between the wall and bath edge so it dos'nt protrude past the tile and onto the bath edge.

Bit long winded, hope it helps
