We get contacted periodically by 'rated tradesmen' type websites and I always have a good look around them in hope that the new enquiry is a different setup to the many others. Though I can'#t find one that isn't a bid type website where the customers just goes for the cheapest quote, and the website is setup to encourage that in most cases.
One thing I have noticed with them all is the amount of tradesmen that advertise as if they are huge contractors and can cater for gardening, roofing, plastering, brick laying, tiling and whatever, and their company name will be something like 'ABC Developments' or XYZ Property Improvements' though we all know that they're just people trying to gain any work they can, and if they can afford to work for peanuts then they couldn't have possible invested in all the tools and equipment needed to carry out all the work to standard.
Clearly we've avoid advertising any of them in any great deal but it just goes to show IMO that a real professional tiling specialist is still sought after. It's just getting that information over to the customers when you're quoting so they know what they're getting if they pay you the right price, and what to expect if they pay ABC Developments at their very low price.
Did you see cowboy builders last night? The bloke who was always 20% cheaper than all the local builders, and he could never finish a job right and to standard as a result.
Network with plumbing and kitchen fitting specialists and try not to do all the trades yourself and you'll find the work comes in three fold if all three of your companies do use each other well. I know Dave has a very close kitchen fitter contact (his bro in law I think is it Dave?) and it works well for him.
