Took 5 months, lots of tilers NVQ training, smsts courses, sssts courses, paperwork thoroughly checked for process, accounts studied, insurances upgraded, training matrix investigated and checked.. Health & safety vigorously checked and tested..

Just had to look it up. Health and safety checks and whatnot. I assume to win a bid on a contract or something?

Overkill for domestic I'd guess?

SSIP - will be the standard that every construction company will have to adhere to within 10 years, Like Corgi used to be, a governing body, a set of rules / guidelines / standards working in liaison with CITB and HSE, ensuring all construction companies
1) Have bonafide sub contractors ( which means NVQ qualified and HSE tested )
2) Pre Qualify their sub contractors via means of checking their blue CSCS cards are NVQ standard and not expired ,not green site operative cscs / trade references x 2 / physically view the candidates tiling.
3) All construction companies have up to date professional indemnity / contractor all risks / public liability / employers liability insurances relevant to their core business.
4) The company is deemed sound with a full credit check and financial accounts consolidated.
5) The latest Health & Safety guidelines are being adhered to.

in this day and age of blame / claim / suing
basically, with one email / phonecall to SSIP, whoever employs the service of the said company can rest assured that someone else has done the hard work in collating & checking, all of the information required for tiling quality / health & safety and insurances purposes.

We may not like it, but it is the way it will all go, this industry is going through a transition period, but eventually, all tradesman will require a NVQ to work and be insured, insurance companies already ask if the tradesmen are bonafide, meaning qualified... with certificates.... move with the times or be left behind..

Insurance companies are discounting principle contractors that have adopted the SSIP accreditation, but in turn that means they can only sub contract to SSIP approved sub contractors to keep their accreditation, which means at the moment it is a niche market for sub contractors.....
