just a thought but how about a trypod with three legs!! like a camera one!!

I don't know much about the tripod type gooner.
Do they allow you to say cast a line at about 10inch from the bottom and then quickly move the laser and cast say a line say 8 inch below the ceiling.
The staf system seems a very flexible and efficient way

the normal tripod will be not be able to do those situations, but will do 12" to 48" mostly.
