B&Q have got very clever with their marketing over the last year, tempting people in with £50 off and half price offers for one day only here and there. I read a report today saying that wickes are expecting next weekend (bank hol weekend) to be one of the best they have ever had
Better park me van in wickes car park this weekend then might get some jobs from it :lol:

to be honest, i am glad b&q are doing well because that means theres more chance of us picking up the tiling work...the old law of averages...the average diyer, isnt always that confident when it comes to larger format & stone tiles and its even better when their numpty staff give out the wrong info because it puts the pro tiler in a much better position when they go round to price rectifying the mess!!

i know their tiles are a little bit 'challenging' at times?? but its better to be sticking their tiles than nothing at all..

i shove a5 adverts in their 600x600 boxes of tiles,,,,,,,shoooooosssshhh dont tell anyone

Homebase profits are up too, however all is not what it appears!!

The reason they are all making larger 'profits' isnt due to the increase in sales its down to cutbacks, restructuring etc.

I was talking the manager of my local Homebase this afternoon and we were dicussing the B&Poo (thanks for that one Andy, childish but i like it ) profits. He said Homebase had done the same thing they have even changed power suppliers in an attempt to save money and changed timers on lighting etc.

However whilst it makes everyone think that things are picking up, its actually pretty misleading, especially if you are a shareholder! Obviously we wont see the same increase next year as there is a limit to how much they can cut their costs.

I dont have a problem with the sheds doing well, as Ed says while there selling there tiles, kitchens and bathrooms it means someone somewhere has gotta be fitting the stuff.
