backerboard

Hi i am new to this so go easy on me.

I wonder if any body can help. What would be the method for attaching backerboard to a painted brick wall. I am using the backerboard to get over the unevenes of the cheshire bricks. This wall has been an internal wall for 5 years and has several coats of emulsion on it. I will be tiling with travertine 600/400, so there will be quite a bit of weight.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TF Justin. Mechanically fix them, ie plugs and screws, I'd use a minimum of 100mm screws and use washers as well to stop the screws pulling through the board.

Would i need to pack the back of the boards ore use board adhesive to take out the uneveness of the brick? also do i need to remove emulsion of a plastered wall before i tile? i read some were that you had to. But the paint is very sound and i can not get it of easily.
