Bad jobs

Have you ever had a job thats not gone right from the start, and made you think you,re not cut out for tiling.

Are you down in the dumps mate?

Sure there are days you can feel a bit low and then things go wrong too so it adds to the stress of the day but you have to switch off when you go home and deal with it the best you can.

If there's a specific problem you have always ask on here fella.

There are a fair few decent members on board now and I'm sure between the bunch of NVQ assessors, manufacturer's technical support staff and god knows how many tilers from all angles of the trade - we should be able to answer any questions.

Never mind bad days Eddie,Wait till u get bad months. Still learning so every small problem seems 10 x worse than what it is. Just gotta get on with it the best u can and learn from it. Can't wait for the time i go into a house and say to myself this'll be easy.:wink_smile:

It's been a BAD week, tiles off square and diferent sizes, so just cant get good grout lines, now struggling to get sealer to dry, so cant get the grouting done. and the customer cmes bace from her holiday tomorrow expecting a lovely finished consevatory floor, im almost bald with pulling my hair out all week, but i think tilers are supposed to bee bald arent they :wink_smile:

Erm..wots wrong with bald!!!!....lol lol lol.....when you say sealer wont dry ..what have you used and what have you sealed.........dave..

It's H G impregnator, on slate tiles, it doesn't seem to be inpregnating, just like the wife.lol:wink_smile:

i used to use hg impreg..but switched to lithofin products now and have no such probs anymore..some hg products stay sticky and mess a job up........dave..

This came in a 1 gallon can. it says to remove excess with turps and cloth. this was still sticky after four hours. so i think itwill be a turps job, lol

If the sealer is no longer drying, it maybe the fact that the tile has taken enough of it onboard, and now you simply have to wipe off the excess sealer. Just a thought.

spot on fred..once a tile has absorbed all it will it will just sit on the top..........dave..

I've had that alot with slate dave. some are more porious than others etc............

So it will be a turps job then, to take the excess away.

eddie mate ..i dint think you should use turps mate...have had a look on the intructions for you and found this.........dave...


Over application of this product is very common - a second coat is rarely needed and excess Impregnator needs to be removed quickly. Excess Impregnator will sit on the surface and will become sticky and will give a streaky appearance if left. If you are in this situation you will need to use HG Spot Stain Remover to remove the excess. This will not affect the Impregnator that has been applied to the surface already. Once absorbed the sealer is permanent.

Thanks Dave, it says on the tin to use turps, but i think i'll get some of that stuff tomorrow, hope its still ok after it has been on all night?
