UK Complain after 6 mths? Yes or no

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

I have had my ensuite and bathroom installed in April. The job had ongoing issues during the job and I had to call them back twice due to cracked tiles, floor sealant no longer working etc. I paid a lot of money and the company are supposed to be a top end company. However my boyfriend has just been talking about the bad tiling in my bathroom to be honest I just accepted the job in the end. There are numerous tiles that badly lipped. Is it too late to go and back complain as it is now 6 months ago? Thank you.

Should be least at 12 months defect period for workmanship

Yeah as above. You've got to put it in writing, be polite but firm. Give them the chance to rectify it. But then if they refuse you may need to get legal on them and then you'd perhaps need www.tiles.org.uk (the tile association) to help out. They can be an expert witness in any legal proceedings.

So it can be a pain in the back side and drawn out but the sooner you let them know and start the ball rolling the better.

Sealant only has a 12 month guarantee in most cases so it'd be more down to the lipping and quality of workmanship you're remarking on. Then that has tolerances so if the tiles are ceramic which can vary in thickness during the kiln process, that could bring the supplier into question and all sorts.

So is the lipping measurable? If you run a coin flat over the surface does the coin stop on the joints? Can you take a couple of pictures to show us?
