Discuss Bad Tile (part 2) or manufactured natural effect? in the British & UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

Hi all, my last post was Bad Tile week - part 2 is that the supplier Topps Tiles (online) claim that a chip is manufactured into the top edge of the tile to give it a "natural look." The end result is they have charged the customer £53 for returning "perfectly good tiles."

This is the tile the customer chose:
Manhattan Marble Floor Tile

What do you think? Should a chipped edge or corner be allowable as a "manufactured natural stone effect"? Have you come across this before?

My customer did not like it. It looked unnatural on the finished tile. You could snag your finger on the defect when it was laid flat. Have you bought or used this tile and found the edge chipped and thought it acceptable?

Can't see the detail on the pics.
I've come across it plenty of times but they usually have many irregularities on the surface and/or edges to good effect. Just one chip on the tile in the same place would look odd though so seems a bit daft.

Poor show by Topps though, another reason that I don't use them.

I don't see a single chipped tile in the pic of that floor..
