I used to quote for the job as a whole and stick to the price but got stung too many times on extra materials so now the customer pays for all materials needed and I stick to the labour charge unless we need to do work that wasn't quoted for. I normally spec slightly more than needed so most of the time materials come in at less than quoted. The customers like this
