Basalt tiles

Hi All

I'm not a professional, don't really know anything about tiling, and need some advice. I'm looking to purchase some honed basalt tiles and I want a finish a like this:

What sort of grout should I be purchasing? I know some tiles need sealing to prevent staining - what sort of sealant should I use for basalt?

Any other things I should be aware of?

Appreciate any help or advice anyone can give me.

hello manwood,my advice is if you have never laid any tiles before then i would advise you to get a pro to lay these for you

stone is a different thing to ceramic tiling ,however if you are going to go ahead and do it yourself you will get lots of advise here im sure

what is the substrate these are going to be laid on?

I am hoping to get a pro to do the job but it depends on finance - I'm trying to price the job up at the moment.

I haven't pulled the old floor up yet, but I'm pretty sure it's concrete underneath.

Am I right in thinking stone tiles are harder to lay than your bog standard porcelain stuff?

I wouldn't say they are that much harder to fix, not for a professional anyway but they can be more time consuming. Wet cutting with expensive cutters and sealing needed.

Roughly what sort of price would a pro charge for fitting 4 square metres (a small, square, bathroom)?

Any idea what grout, adhesive and sealant costs are likely to be (roughly)?

I'm in the UK.

Correct, get more than 1 quote and you wil get a good idea of costs.
