Cheers bri as its not the shower wall side I may get some 2x4's to bring the wall out a little and have a go at creating a recess. Would that be ok? Cheers lads

2x4 is 50x100mm so that's going to overlap the bath and you'll still need to board it, you'll be halfway down the bath by the time the tiles are on

Lol no I meant the 50mm side against the wall lol. But when I come to it I may use different size timber as I wont know until im standing there with me tape lol. Will that be ok tho?

You've lost me now, the way I understood it is that one of the short sides is where the gap is. You don't want it to overlap the bath by too much. Either way, just use timber and plasterboard/backer board to fill the gap between existing wall and the bath.

yes mate but given the 40mm gap... could I overlap the bath another 10 or 20mm to create a bigger recess or is it always best to meet the bath? im not very good at making myself clear am I sorry mate lol

Theres no problem overlapping the bath so long as there is enough room to do it, you just don't want to end up in a situation where the wall/tile has overlapped the bowl of the bath. If there is enough of the flat edge to overlap, then go for it.

38x63 CLS from wickes is what you could use..then some 6mm hardibacker then tile up to bath if you got enough room.dont forgot to Silicon the gap between the CLS/Hardibacker prior to tiling..
