well, i go to england few times a year and i have stayed in a few hotels there, and i have noticed that tilers there do not use bath seals, and instead have a beed of Silicon around the bath.

here in ireland we use bath seals but now i am starting to see that Silicon is being used in new buildings.

i rather use a low profile bath seal like an L shape most common ones are a h, if you know wat i mean. the L shape ones look really modern and clean, i was thinking of trying this silcone method but think its a very messy job if you have not used it before in this way,

and also if you notice after a while Silicon tend to come away from the bath or tiles and the seal is lost.

so what am asking is what Silicon do you use and how do you apply as good as you do, and if you make a mistake how do you clean it off???????

thanks

Just to throw in some confusion my preference is to use free standing baths.

Makes life easier with tiling. This one is back lit with a blue LED.

Of cpurse the Silicon is then not needed.

Last job i did the customer stated they didn't want one of those ''Nasty cheep looking bath seals'' his words not mine.

I've always found people prefer Silicon. Much less fuss to look at.

There's 100 different threads regarding the 'best' or 'preferred method' of applying the horrid gunk but it really is a matter of exsperiance I think.

I live the finger by the way :fuk2:

I can see merrits of bath/shower seals. However if you go to price a job thats say 10 plus years old with white bath seals, well its the bath seals that are creamy brown colour and in my book do not look as clean lined as a nice bit of anti fungal Silicon.
I tend not to use them unless directed by a customer, most of my plumbers dont like them either. I've seen more leaks from poorly installed seals as baths and shower trays have curves atc on them now.
I suppose its everyones preference, but im a Silicon man.

Started out using bath seals but after visiting a few customers bathrooms with them in they always looked grubby. I use the Everbuild Forever White Silicon now (with Microban) Tradetiler Tilers Silicon and tools
To quote another member, soapy water and the touch of a virgin. No idea what he means!!

I like it!
