Hi all,
Fairly new here, so apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I'm looking at refitting my bathroom and we have been looking at what tiles to use. I have only bought a sample tile at the moment.
The tiles we have found are a ceramic marble effect 50 x 25cm wall tile, which we would like to tile in a brick-bond effect. The issue I have is the tiles look to be slightly bowed so that where the edge of one row of tiles meets the middle of the tile on the next row the wall doesn't look flat.

Is there any way to overcome this? Or are these poorly made tiles?

By the way the tiles are made by BCT.

Many thanks

Your choice!
Good adhesive, good grout, good tiling - not always necessary around a bath - just good siliconing and a well supported bath with no movement!
Check that the grout is ok as once opened it doesn't take much moisture to make it 'off'.
Tape the corner and Silicon as well.
The main ingredient is fun - enjoy !

The tiles weight should be fine and no where near plaster boards weight limits for tiling.
3.5kg per tile approx x 5.55 per m2 = 19.44 kg per m2 + 5kg adhesive & grout, well with in 30 kg per m2.

If your only using a shower at mains water pressure occasionally then I personally wouldn't bother tanking it. As said, use good quality grout with perhaps,( 'droplet effect'),and then seal the grout with ltp grout and tile protector spray.

Thanks Guys. I'll be making a wooden frame to support the bath. I had already planned to do this anyway as I prefer to over engineer things. :) How would I check if the grout is off? It has been stored indoors so hoping it will be ok.

Weight wise the plasterboard does have a plaster skim over the wall, so I'm guessing I could be getting close to the weight limit?
Having said that the wall had been tiled over tiles amounting to 15mm thick, so I'll probably be ok anyway.

Looking forward to it. I get a lot of satisfaction completing this myself, and seeing what you have achieved.

The help for this site is invaluable though.

Plasters weight limit is 20kg so, your slightly over but I think your be fine.
Don't forget to prime if your using a cement based adhesive.
Does your grout have a manufacturering date on the bag? Not sure about Bar specifically however, if stored dry and at temperatures above freezing grouts can ok for up to two years.
If in any doubt, I'd buy a new bag. RE grouting is torture.

I guess I need to weigh a tile and add about 5kg for adhesive and grout! :)

Ah forgot about priming, shop didn't mention anything about priming. :( What do I need to prime with?
Your right about the grout, I'll check the date, it's probably about 9 months old, Or as you say for the small outlay buy a new bag. Cheers.

Personally I would tank the area around the bath if you are having a shower mounted above the bath.
Theres a fairly inexpensive BAL shower-treatment kit which is possibly £70 which has everything you need in the box (bar a throw-away paint brush) and is very easy to use.
If its getting more of a constant water battering then a sheet of Schluter Kerdi Membrane can be bought per metre if you know how much you want.
However, you don't have to....I never used to, I just like to nowadays.
Good luck!

Hi Guys, Thanks to everyone's help. My bathroom is still ongoing. :)
Tiling is almost finished with just the window reveal and boxing to tile. My only concern is tiling the top of the window reveal. Any tips? Also I am worried about them falling down, I know the tiles are close to the weight limit of plaster. The reveal was painted plaster before. I have scored the surface and scrapped any lose paint off, which wasn't much to be honest.

I am using Norcros one part flexable addy which has been great so far. I'm tempted to scrape the paint off so it's direct to the plaster.

Any help appreciated.

Do as you suggest that's the way to go.

If you can tile the underside first and then the sides, you can lock in the top corner tiles with the side tiles so that they're overlapping it. Then you're only propping up the middle tiles while the adhesive sets.

Thanks Dan, I have already tiled the sides, so just the top and bottom to do. They are big tiles (600 x 300) so their will only be two tiles 170mm deep stuck up there anyway.

I guess I just need to hope the plaster is stuck to the lintel. :D The plaster seems sound, but I know the plaster is a lightweight plaster with a skim over top. Hopefully I am worrying about nothing.
