Battens a tilers tool

There have been a few threads relating to the batten and its uses. I used battens frequently when tiling for two main reasons. The lower batten is supportive and gives a good datum line and level, the upper batten is a measuring aid and also a way of continuing datum line and levels. With larger heavier tiles more and more being used on walls, they can be a great tool put to good purpose. I attach a quick sketch I did to highlight this.....Gaz

That makes no difference Gaz, sometimes when you try and explain something to a person who has little experience it can seem so confusing, as in the "marble mitre" thread. A picture or even a scribbled drawing can clear matters up in seconds.

Nice sketch Gaz. Never seen battens across the top, is that a northern thing?

If i can answer for gaz i would nt say its a northern thing(me being from the same area as gaz) but more a help full aid to ensure cuts above a reveal are kept straight shall we say for the less experienced, or if you had a few too many the night before!) i use a drawn pencil line but have used a batten before now

Of course I did, with a bal pen if I ever encounter a problem I phone technical and they advise me to throw it away and get another, or twist the top to expose the knib...lol :lol:
